Tesla installs new charging stations in Mississauga putting the City on track to becoming an EV charging hub in Ontario

By Announcement, Resources, Ward 1

Mississauga will soon be the Tesla charging capital of Ontario. Last week, Telsa opened one of Canada’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Applewood Village Plaza on 1077 North Service Rd in Mississauga. This is the largest fast-charging site in Ontario. Two additional Tesla EV charging sites are under construction, and two others are being developed.

Tesla charging stalls

The new charging site offers 32 supercharger stalls with 24 stalls facing North Service Rd. and 8 built along Insley Rd. The stalls are a flat rate of $0.53/kWh. This makes predicting and controlling charging costs easier, which is great news for those looking to save money.

By taking action to support sustainable transportation, the City is helping boost economic growth, reduce carbon emissions and promote a healthier environment.

The convenience and availability of EV charging stations, like the ones at Applewood Village Plaza, will attract more electric vehicle owners, which will help increase foot traffic and potential customers for businesses in the area.

Private companies like Tesla are helping support the City’s commitment to fighting climate change by reducing GHG emissions while providing expanded service to residents.

As the City advances the goals of the Peel Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy, public/private partnerships are playing an increasingly important role. They are helping the City move forward in reducing emissions and achieving its climate change goals, which are outlined in the City’s Climate Change Action plan (CCAP). With each project and partnership, Mississauga gets one step closer to reaching its GHG emission reduction targets.

SCHEDULED WATER INTERRUPTION NOTICE

By Resources, Ward 1

INTERRUPTION DETAILS

Date and Time:  Thursday, December 7th, from 9:00 am to 5:00pm

Location: 2154 Primate Rd

Addresses Affected: 2087-2179 Primate Rd; 2132-2152 Dixie Rd; 1329 Wealthy Pl

Project #: C-603446

Regional Inspector:  Phemelo Mpoloka

Telephone #   437-220-8917

                        905-791-7800 ext. 3246/3247

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.

Your water will be turned off on Thursday, December 7th, from approximately 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

If this interruption may affect an alarm or maintenance company, it is your responsibility to notify them.  During the time that the water supply is interrupted, the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function.  A fire watch should be performed as necessary during time period.

After the water interruption:

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise.  We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well. You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds.  Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.

Important note:  After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking your water meter (usually located in the basement).  If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

  • (905) 791 – 7800 Ext. 3226 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Monday to Friday)
  • (905) 791 – 7800 Ext. 4409 (After hours or Statutory Holidays)

Approving Units Must Lead to Building Units

By Planning & Development

I am pleased to hear the Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister, Paul Calandra is looking at addressing time lines for getting shovels in the ground after building applications have been approved.

Currently there are approximately 80,000 existing and ‘As of Right’ (no zoning changes need to be made) units available across the city, that could house approximately 244,000 people. At this time there is no sunset clause or tools available to encourage the expeditious development of those properties.

I would like to share one example, of many.  In my Ward, there are 400 units that were approved on a piece of property 31 years ago, with no permit to date ever filed to be built.  This is the issue that needs to be addressed…how to get shovels in the ground faster.

I look forward to hearing more on the “use it or lose it” (Sunset Clause) from the Ministry in the spirit of collaboration in working towards getting shovels in the ground faster once applications are, in fact, approved.
