Please note that the above will be filming re-scheduled exterior scenes for a TV series “Sex/Life” at 1462 Mississauga Road (Ward 2) on October 28 – 31, times vary per day.

A permit has been issued to allow parking on the following from October 28, 10:00pm – October 31, 2:00am:

  • One side of Shenandoah Dr between Wateska Blvd and Mississauga Rd

Affected residents have been informed of these activities via notification letter. A release form survey was sent to residents with less than 20% objecting  in order to allow:

  • Overnight parking
  • Afterhours filming and vehicle movement
  • Filming on a residential block more than twice in a calendar year

Production has also been granted permission to park crew vehicles at Port Credit Arena (40 Stavebank Rd, Ward 1) from October 28, 7:00am – October 31, 2:00am.

Region of Peel enters into a confirmed second wave of COVID-19

Peel Region is in seeing a second wave of COVID-19, and we’re asking residents to take a serious look at what we can do to reduce the spread.

The pandemic in our community has not slowed the way we anticipated. We need to make changes now, in order to get control of the spread of COVID-19. Recent trends linked with Thanksgiving have pushed us into a second wave. The pandemic is again spreading widely throughout our community. That means even our loved ones and people we see regularly could be at risk for spreading COVID-19 to us, and us to them. While we all hope for a return to reopening as soon as possible, it’s only smart to do so when it’s safe.
Until then, let’s take a second look at how all of us can reduce the risk of COVID-19.

Look at what’s essential.
You must only leave home for essentials, such as work, school, exercise, healthcare, or purchasing food and drink, gasoline, or automobile maintenance. When you do, follow the precautions of distancing, masking, and handwashing. If your trip out is non-essential, stay home. If you are sick, stay home and self-isolate.
Look at who you’re with.
You must only have close contact with people who live in your home. Close contact means interaction that doesn’t require wearing masks or physical distance.
Look at how you meet.
You must stop meeting in person, even at a physical distance. Treat every interaction with others as though you could be spreading COVID-19. Cut the chance of transmission. Turn every meeting into a virtual one.
Look at the why.
Our grandparents, friends, coworkers, local businesses, are all reasons why we need to take a serious look at limiting our interactions. Our community needs everyone to take the precautions seriously. This will help us all stay safe and bring the pandemic back under control.

City of Mississauga Helps Small Businesses Adopt Digital Technologies

The City of Mississauga’s Digital Service Squad (DSS) is back again to help small businesses thrive in Mississauga. Made possible through a $67,500 grant awarded to the City by the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA), the Squad will support the digital transformation of local main street businesses through the adoption of digital tools and technologies.

“We know many of our small businesses have faced difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I’d like to thank the federal and provincial governments, and OBIAA for this grant, which couldn’t have come at a better time to help Mississauga businesses become more tech-savvy, remain versatile and competitive,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Our local businesses are the backbone of our community. “This grant will help give them in recovering from the impacts of the pandemic – which is critical now to help them increase sales locally and be competitive globally.”

Funding for the grant was provided by FedDev Ontario, a federal program. Made up of five digital technology specialists, the DSS will help main street small businesses this fall and winter in Mississauga’s Business Improvement Areas (BIA). The Squad will achieve this by focusing on digital assessments, building an online brand, attracting clients, marketing and selling their products through the use of digital tools and technology, and seeking support from the BIAs to reach their members and local BIA businesses.

“The COVID-19 pandemic hit Ontario’s main streets hard, so Digital Main Street (DMS) is needed more than ever,” said Kay Matthews, Executive Director of OBIAA.  “We know that businesses that participated in Digital Main Street last year were better able to cope when the pandemic hit. By helping main street small businesses enhance their digital presence, we want them to be able to embrace the latest technologies and benefit from the expertise of the Digital Service Squad. We hope this grant gives them this opportunity to prepare and flourish well into the future.”The Squad program will be delivered though the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC) under the City’s Economic Development Office (EDO). MBEC provides guidance and support to help individuals start and grow their small business, including:

  • free business information and guidance
  • low cost business seminars and workshops
  • low cost online business courses
  • training and mentorship programs
  • young entrepreneur program

“The MBEC and our Economic Development Office are excited to again run the Digital Main Street program in Mississauga. After an incredibly successful program in 2019, we feel providing digital support to our small businesses is more important now than ever, especially given the impacts of COVID-19,” said Bonnie Brown, Director, Economic Development. “Main Street businesses are the heart of our community and the DMS program will allow for these businesses to survive and even thrive with the support of our Digital Service Squad.”

GTHA Mayors and Chairs support public health officials providing a safe path forward for businesses

“Today, Mayors and Chairs from the 11 largest municipal governments across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area took part in their weekly call on the ongoing response to COVID-19.

The Mayors and Chairs have been working together since March to ensure a coordinated regional response to the pandemic.

While only certain parts of the GTHA are currently in a modified Stage 2, all the Mayors and Chairs agreed that local public health officials need to work with each other and with their provincial counterparts to prepare now for post-Stage 2 reopening scenarios wherever applicable.

We want businesses to be able to reopen safely following the 28-day pause and to remain open. We need a safe path forward for restaurants and other establishments from our public health professionals assuming circumstances permit.

The Mayors and Chairs continue to urge all residents to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our area. Wear a mask, avoid gathering with people you don’t live with (beyond work and school where precautions are in place), and support your local businesses as much as possible.”

Ontario Guidelines for Halloween during COVID-19

This year, Peel Public Health’s recommendation on celebrating Halloween takes into account the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the Peel community. The Halloween guidance reflects what is right for Peel.

In the spirit of community safety, Halloween is not cancelled but will look different this year. Peel Public Health continues to recommend keeping celebrations to close contacts within your immediate household. Trick or treating may be associated with other high-risk activities for spreading the virus, like gathering in groups, close contact and going into other people’s homes.

As such, Peel Public Health and Ontario guidelines discourages traditional door-to-door trick or treating and people should consider alternative ways to celebrate. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Encouraging kids to dress up and participate in virtual activities and parties;
  • Organizing a Halloween candy hunt with people living in their own household;
  • Carving pumpkins;
  • Having a movie night or sharing scary stories; and
  • Decorating front lawns.

Project details of the QEW/ Dixie Interchange

The purpose of this is to provide interested parties with access to project information and to contact the Project Team.

Contract 1:

Contract 1 of the QEW/Dixie Project (from east of Dixie Road to the East Mall) is currently under construction and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2021.

Contract 2:

The Detail Design for Contract 2 is underway and will continue throughout 2020/2021. Contract 2 covers the works along QEW from east of Cawthra Road to west of Etobicoke Creek.  Once the detail design is complete, the Design and Construction Report (DCR) will be made available for a 30-day public review period. Notification regarding the time and location of the availability of the DCR for review, will be published in local newspapers, posted onto the project website and mailed to those on the project contact list.  At this time, we anticipate construction of the main Contract 2 works to commence in 2022; however, advanced works such as utility relocations have started within the project limits and phase into the actual construction for Contract 2.  This timing is subject to funding, completion of the detail design, and receiving all required environmental permits and approvals.

Public consultation is anticipated to include methods such as informational updates to the project website and a future public information centre.  Stakeholders will be notified in the upcoming months once a date and virtual hosting platform have been determined for the PIC.  All current information regarding Contract 2 is available on the project website on the Consultation page under the Public Information Centre section: http://www.qewdixiedetaildesign.ca/consultation/.

In regards to the current state of the condition of the municipal roads, maintenance and operations of the Service Roads and Dixie Road remains under the jurisdiction of the City of Mississauga and Peel Region, respectively. The segments within the project limits of these municipal roads, will be assumed by MTO upon commencement of Contract 2 for construction purpose where practical. The MTO will continue to consult with the municipalities throughout design and construction.

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a reliable supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do the work. In the next few days, we will be working in your area and will have to turn off your water for a few hours.

Your water will be turned off on Thursday, October 29, 2020 from approximately 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. However, if the weather is bad or if a problem arises, we will reschedule the work and will let you know the new date and time.

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. If this happens, you can remove the air by briefly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well.

You should only have to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds, but keep running it until the water is clear and any vibration or noise has stopped.

If your water meter starts to leak, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

City’s Vacuum Leaf Collection Program

The City’s Vacuum Leaf Collection Program (VLCP) begins on October 26th and in preparation staff from Works Operations and Maintenance would like to provide you and with some items for reference.

Vacuum Leaf Collection Program:

This year, 140 streets have been added to the program. Residents eligible for VLCP will receive a postcard in the mail with their collection dates. These cards are delivered on a staggered schedule so that they arrive approximately two weeks before the zone’s first pickup. A route map and small quantity of cards will be sent to your office shortly.

Residents are instructed to rake leaves to the boulevard or into their ditch by the Sunday prior to their leaf collection dates. Leaves should not be raked onto the road as this can cause catch basins to become blocked and impact road drainage when it rains.

Residents who miss their leaf pickup, or who have additional leaves to collect after the program has ended, can rake their leaves into open reusable containers or paper yard waste bags and place them curbside for pick up by the Region of Peel on their regular waste collection day until December 11, 2020. This option is also available to residents who do not qualify for the VLCP.

As you are aware, it is difficult to predict when the leaves will fall. Our goal is to collect as many leaves as possible with each scheduled pickup. The program is weather dependent so snowfall would impact service delivery.

Autumn Street Sweeping on All Residential Roads:

For your information, the City’s street sweeping contractor will begin an autumn street sweeping operation for all residential streets on October 13th. This will help to clear any early leaf drop and summer debris from the roads and catch basins.

As a reminder, our program dates are as follows for this year:

  • Yellow zone: Oct 26th-30 & Nov 16th-20th
  • Blue zone: Nov 2nd-6th & Nov 23rd-27th
  • Green zone: Nov 9th-13th & Nov 30th-Dec 4th

Plazacorp have submitted plans to redevelop the existing Beer Store at 420 Lakeshore Road East (corner of Lakeshore Road and Enola) with a condominium apartment building ranging in height from 2 to 12 storeys and containing 195 residential units with at grade non-residential uses and two levels of underground parking.

The applicant is proposing to amend the official plan designation from Mixed Use to Residential High Density and to rezone the property from C4 (Mainstreet Commercial) to RA5 – Exception (Apartment – Exception) to implement this development proposal.  Driveway access to the proposal will be provided from Enola Avenue.
