The City of Mississauga is looking for public feedback on the future parks at the Lakeview Village Waterfront Development through an online survey launching today. The City wants to better understand what type of experiences and amenities should be prioritized for the future parks.

The Lakeview Village Waterfront Developmentis a significant mixed-use waterfront development on the eastern edge of Mississauga. The area is envisioned to become an important destination in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and beyond. The parks are a significant feature of the development and will provide new opportunities to connect with Lake Ontario. Lakeview Village Waterfront Development parks will serve as destination parks for visitors as well as community parks for the local neighbourhood.

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a reliable supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do the work. In the next few days, we will be working in your area and will have to turn off your water for a few hours.

Your water will be turned off on Friday, November 27, 2020 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  However, if the weather is bad or if a problem arises, we will reschedule the work and will let you know the new date and time.

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. If this happens, you can remove the air by briefly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well.

You should only have to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds, but keep running it until the water is clear and any vibration or noise has stopped.

If your water meter starts to leak, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

City of Mississauga Considers Temporary Use By-law to Permit Some Outdoor Businesses

Today at General Committee, staff were directed to prepare a temporary use by-law effective to December 31, 2021, to permit outdoor retail sales and display and outdoor recreational and entertainment establishments.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City has received several requests for outdoor uses which are not permitted in the zoning by-law. To support Mississauga’s businesses and/or charitable ventures, the City can temporarily permit outdoor retail sales and display and temporary outdoor recreational and entertainment establishments in appropriate zones.

A statutory public meeting scheduled for December 9, 2020 is required to enact the temporary use by-law. If moved by Council next week, enforcement of the zoning by-law provisions which currently do not permit outdoor retail sales and display and outdoor recreational and entertainment establishments will be suspended until the public meeting takes place and the temporary use by-law enacted.

City of Mississauga Develops Policy to Green its Fleet and Equipment to Help Reduce Emissions and Fight Climate Change

Today, General Committee received the City’s Green Fleet and Equipment Policy and Electric Vehicle Charging Station Standard in its efforts towards reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 as part of the City’s Climate Change Action Plan.

“As we move forward with our Climate Change Action Plan, it’s vital we make necessary changes within our organization to be more sustainable,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Having this policy in place will allow us to lead by example and take real action in the fight against climate change.”

The Green Fleet and Equipment Policy will prioritize investment in low and zero-emissions fleet, equipment and infrastructure; the Electric Vehicle Charging Station Standard will guide the installation of electric vehicle chargers on City property.

“In 2017, we found that 78 per cent of Corporate emissions come from the City’s fleet and equipment. We need to make drastic changes if we want to reduce 40 per cent of the City’s GHGs by 2030,” said Jodi Robillos, Director, Parks, Forestry and Environment. “This policy is a critical first step that lays the foundation for staff. It prioritizes the purchase of low or zero-emissions fleet and equipment, as well as improves the use of our existing fleet and equipment. Greening our fleet and equipment could lead to a 28 per cent reduction in Corporate GHG emissions and will help us reach our reduction target of 40 per cent by 2030.”

The Green Fleet and Equipment Policy and Electric Vehicle Charging Station Standard will also complement other City efforts in reducing GHG emissions and improving air quality – the Idling Control By-law and the Unnecessary Vehicle Idling policy.

Robillos added, “This policy will prioritize the electrification of the City’s fleet and equipment in a way that is sustainable and meets our operational needs. We will work to make investments in zero-emissions technologies, such as electric vehicles, which will be phased in over time. Between 2020 to 2030, there is an opportunity to replace more than 50 per cent of our light-duty fleet and equipment, all of Fire’s support vehicles and almost all of MiWay’s fleet, which includes buses and support vehicles.”

In December 2019, Council approved the City’s Climate Change Action Plan. The plan has two goals – reduce 80 per cent of Mississauga’s GHG emissions by 2050 and increase resilience and the capacity for the City to withstand and respond to climate events.

The Green Fleet and Equipment Policy will go to Council next week for approval.

City of Mississauga launched a Music Strategy Survey

The City of Mississauga launched a Music Strategy Survey which will help inform the development of our first Music Strategy.

Feedback collected from the survey will be used to design targeted recommendations in the Strategy. While the Music Strategy will address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the music sector and propose temporary solutions, the goal is to support long-term growth of the sector post-pandemic. As such, questions focus primarily on music-related habits and business operations pre-pandemic, as well as ideas for the future.

The survey closes Friday, December 18.

City of Mississauga Seeks Input on Stormwater Master Plan Build Beautiful

The City of Mississauga is looking for input on its Stormwater Master Plan, titled Build Beautiful. Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey to share their thoughts and ideas on the development of the plan. Input collected through the online survey will help the City define a vision for the future of managing stormwater in Mississauga. Stormwater (rainwater) is the rain and melted snow flowing from your property that drains into streets, ditches, storm drains and watercourses, and then into Lake Ontario.

The Stormwater Master Plan will outline actions and recommendations for managing rainwater over the immediate and long-term in Mississauga. With this new plan, the City will address issues facing Mississauga today including flooding and water quality. It will chart a course toward protecting our water supply and preserving our natural environment.

On November 6th, the Ontario Government moved to the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework, a tiered response that allows regions to scale up or scale back public health restrictions based on the risk level.
As of November 7th, Mississauga is in the Red-Control Level of Ontario’s Framework.
On November 7th, because of a worsening pandemic picture, Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Peel, issued directives to the community that are stricter than those required for the Red – Control stage.
