Fall 2021 Leaf Pickup Program

By Issues, Resources, Ward 1

Fall leaf pickup

In the fall, the City of Mississauga provides a vacuum leaf pickup service on streets that are more than 35 years old and have many large mature trees.

Where leaves are picked up

You can refer to the leaf pickup route map and schedule to find out if your street is part of the leaf pickup program.

If your address is listed for the leaf pickup service, you’ll get a notice in the mail letting you know when leaves will be picked up in your area.

Rain or early snowfall can impact the collection schedule. To find out if your street is affected, you can call 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits).

Preparing for leaf pickup

If your area is listed for leaf pickup:

  • Rake leaves to the curb or ditch a day or two before the start of your collection week
  • Don’t mix other items such as wood, bricks or brush as they can damage equipment and injure workers
  • Keep the road and curbside storm drains clear of raked leaves

If you missed leaf pickup

If you missed the City’s leaf pickup:

The Region of Peel will pick up leaves and yard waste that you have collected and placed in bins or paper bags on your regular waste collection day until mid-December.

You can compost your leaves or spread them around the base of your trees to fertilize the soil by protecting it against extreme temperatures.

New Proof of Vaccination Requirements for Youth Sports in Mississauga in effect November 1

By Covid-19, Issues, Resources, Ward 1

To comply with Peel Public Health’s Letter of Instruction for all residents of Peel Region, the City of Mississauga will now require proof of vaccination for those aged 12 and older who are participating in organized sports and recreation fitness activities indoors starting November 1.

Effective November 1, 2021, all participants 12 years and older entering a City of Mississauga recreation or culture location will be required to provide proof of vaccination or a valid medical exemption, along with identification. This will apply to youth and all coaches, instructors, caregivers, volunteers, and game officials.

“Our staff are working hard behind the scenes to make this a seamless transition and we are in the process of contacting sports teams, coaches or volunteers and participants that the new requirements impact,” said Jodi Robillos, Acting Commissioner of Community Services. “Youth that remain unvaccinated and enrolled in a program at one of the City’s many facilities will be offered a prorated refund upon request.”

Anyone over the age of 12 who is required to show proof of vaccination can show a printed or digital copy of their proof of vaccination certificate and a piece of Government-issued ID.

The Letter of Instruction was directed by Peel’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Lawrence Loh in accordance with Provincial Regulations. According to Peel Public Health, indoor sports venues have been identified as “locations of concern,” which have been driving transmission of COVID-19 over the last few weeks. The additional measures in Peel Region, which includes the City of Mississauga, will help to protect Peel’s active youth sports community.
