The Region of Peel reminds all residents that the winter garbage exemption period is from January 27-February 7, 2020. Check your collection calendar to find your garbage exemption day.
During the exemption period, remember to put your extra garbage out only on your garbage collection day, not on your recycling collection day.
There is no maximum amount of acceptable garbage (check our website for a full list of items) that you can put on the curb. Garbage bag tags are not required during exemption periods.
Excess garbage cannot:
- Weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Be larger than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high.
- Be smaller than 30 cm (12 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in) high.
Put your excess garbage close to but not on top of your garbage bins, leaving at least 1 m (3 ft.) of clear space between your extra garbage item(s) and your bins.
Residents are also encouraged to check their collection calendar or sign-up to receive free weekly collection reminders by email, text message, or phone call.

In February, the City Centre Transit Terminal (CCTT) will undergo a complete interior renovation to transform the City’s busiest facility into a modernized space with improved accessibility and services for MiWay customers. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2021.
During the renovations, the CCTT will remain accessible to the community with some areas temporarily out of service. It is anticipated that the elevator will be temporarily out of service from April until July 2020. Customers are encouraged to look for directional signage indicating access points. Customer service for the information booth and fare booths will be relocated, but will remain onsite throughout construction to serve commuters.
For more information about the CCTT renovation, visit miway.ca/cctt.
I would like to provide information on the Marina Action Plan project in Ward 1.
Council approved the Inspiration Port Credit Master Plan in 2016 which recommends that a vibrant mixed use waterfront neighbourhood and destination with a full service marina be developed at the 1 Port Street East site. Subsequently, Council authorized staff, through Resolution 0193-2017, to move forward with the Marina Action Plan for 1 Port Street East. A consulting team led by Shoreplan Engineering Limited was retained in June 2019 to complete an Environmental Assessment (EA) and pre-design studies. The City hosted the first Public Information Centre about the 1 Port Street East Proposed Marina Project on July 18, 2019.
A detailed project update was provided to you on through a General Committee presentation on October 30, 2019.
Next steps for the project include a Public Information Centre #2 on January 29th at the Port Credit Legion with an open house at 4:00 pm and a presentation at 6:30 pm– please save the date. The purpose of this Public Information Centre is to present the draft Terms of Reference, which sets out the City’s work plan for addressing the Environmental Assessment Act requirements in the Individual EA, builds upon all of the background work completed to date, includes the extent of lakefill to be considered in the EA, and the public consultation activities. More detailed alternatives will be shown at future PICs. This will be an opportunity for the local and boating community to understand the project and to discuss the Terms of Reference with the project team. The community will be engaged throughout the process and will be given opportunities to provide input.
If you have any questions pertaining to this project please feel free to reach out to myself………………
