Region of Peel announces Gary Kent as CFO and Commissioner of Corporate Services

The Region of Peel announces Gary Kent as the CFO and Commissioner of Corporate Services as of May 10, 2021. In this role, Gary joins the members of Peel’s Executive Leadership Team, and will be responsible for ensuring the Region remains financial sustainable while continuing to deliver a suite of excellent internal services.

Gary joins the Region from the City of Mississauga where he has worked for the past 25 years. For the last seven years, he held the position of Commissioner of Corporate Services and CFO. He has also held a senior role in COVID-19 response and recovery, participating on AMO-Provincial-TO COVID MOU sub-committee, as well as the FCM CFO table on financial impact which lead to Safe Start Funding.

Gary’s background includes a long list of educational and professional accreditations. Among them, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy from Glasgow Caledonian University, designations of CPA and CGA as well as the Institute of Corporate Directors Designation (ICD.D). He has also won many distinguished awards, including Chartered Association of Certified Accountants Canadian Advocate of the year in 2019. Gary is an active contributor to the municipal sector sitting on several boards and committees, including the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators, AMO/ MFOA’s One Investment, Sheridan College’s Professional Advisory Committee and ACCA’s Public Sector Global Forum. He is currently CEO of Enersource Corporation.

As Chief Financial Officer and Commissioner of Corporate Services, Gary will continue to ensure the Region of Peel remains a leader in financial management and internal services, maximizing the benefits of tax dollars and transforming them into valuable services for the community.
