QEW and Dixie Road Reconfiguration

By March 3, 2022March 4th, 2022Ward 1
As part of the planned improvements to the Queen Elizabeth Way from east of Cawthra Road to the East Mall, the planned improvement includes but are not limited to the following components:

  • – Replacement of the Dixie Road underpass and configuration of the QEW/Dixie Road interchange to a partial cloverleaf interchange.
  • – Replacement of the Ogden Avenue Pedestrian bridge
  • – Construction of a structural culvert and a new sanitary sewer immediately west of Dixie Road.
The above mentioned improvements will be impacting some local City roads and will require either partial closure or full road closure. City staff will summarize each closure required below:

For the replacement of Ogden Avenue pedestrian bridge, the work will be required overnight as it will require a full temporary closure of QEW and both north and south of Service Roads between Cawthra Road and Dixie Road. The estimated duration for the closure is 11-hour period. Dates are not confirmed yet however, staff will request from MTO’s contractor to provide dates in advance in order to send out our internal notification as part of the communication for the City beside the communication plan that will be completed by MTO. As part of the bridge replacement work, a partial closure on South Service Road will be required at Ogden Avenue which will result in having a signal bi-directional traffic lane. Temporary traffic signal will be installed to control traffic movement throughout the work zone.

The construction of new sanitary sewer crossing at Haig Boulevard will require the closure of Haig Boulevard at South Service Road. Detoured traffic will be directed to access and exit Haig Boulevard through Applewood Road.

The construction of structural culvert and a new sanitary sewer immediately west of Dixie Road will result in the temporarily full closure of the North Service Road between west of Harvest Drive and east of Stanfield Road (access will still be maintained for westbound traffic to Harvest Drive and eastbound traffic to Stanfield Road).

As part of the construction of new Dixie Road from Rometown Drive to QEW, Cormack Crescent will be closed temporarily.

A temporary closure of the existing QEW westbound off-ramp at Dixie Road will be required over a weekend (from Friday night to Sunday night) in order to accommodate QEW and Dixie Road interchange construction.
