Peel Region is collecting single-use and rechargeable batteries at the curb from April 10 to 21.
Curbside battery collection happens in Peel each spring and fall, providing residents with a convenient way to safely dispose of their batteries and keep them out of landfill.
Follow these guidelines for the spring battery collection period:
- Check your waste collection calendar online at peelregion.ca/waste to find your battery collection day.
- Gather your used single-use and rechargeable batteries in a transparent, sealed bag.
- On your designated battery collection day, place your battery bag on top of your closed green bin. If you don’t have a green bin, place your battery bag beside your recycling bags.
- Special instruction only for rechargeable and 9V batteries: Tape the ends of all rechargeable and 9V batteries before disposal. Alkaline batteries do not need to be taped.
Thanks to Peel residents, we’ve collected over 179,600 kgs of batteries since the start of the program to ensure safe and responsible recycling of used batteries. Due to their hazardous materials, batteries do not belong in garbage or recycling bins.
Other tips:
- Car batteries and sealed lead acid batteries are not accepted. Take them, free of charge, to any Peel Community Recycling Centre.
- If you live in an apartment or condominium, check with your building property manager on how to dispose of batteries safely.
