Registration Link: https://safecitymississauga.online/signup/school-watch-member/azwz79qjbj School Watch is an adaptation of the Neighbourhood Watch and Business Watch programs, in which high school students look out for one another and their school. The program focuses on identifying local issues, educating students on crime prevention and increasing the reporting of suspicious activity and crime to improve student safety and well-being. The School Watch courses include information on how the program works, why students should join, and how to observe and report, as well as concise information on common school issues like bullying from a crime prevention perspective. For example, our short course on bullying includes prevention tips and how bullying may impact a students future if it gets to the level of being a crime. School Watch members will be encouraged to report any crime and suspicious activity which they observe in and around their schools. Students will access local reporting resources such as The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board Online Reporting Tool and Peel Crime Stoppers Anonymous Reporting Line. There are many community supports also provided, including specific resources for Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ youth. All School Watch members will have access to our campaigns, which include courses and toolkits. The toolkits are a guide for students to lead campaigns in their own schools. Students who act as “Campaign Leads” will promote awareness and encourage students to take the campaign courses, while earning volunteer hours in the process.
