A Special Weather Statement is issued by the Storm Prediction Centre at Environment and Climate Change Canada with the first forecast of a heat event when conditions do not meet heat warning criteria, but could pose health risks, particularly to those vulnerable to the heat who are not yet acclimatized to the warmer weather. Alectra Utility is currently working with Metrolinx on the Regional Express Rail (RER)/GO Electrification program. This program impacts the Lakeshore West and Kitchener GO lines through Mississauga, where if there is an existing overhead poleline/conductor crossing, it must be converted to an underground cable crossing, to make room for the overhead Catenary system that Metrolinx is installing to supply future electric trains. The City of Mississauga is launching its annual Integrated Pest Management program to help reduce the number of gypsy moth caterpillars in Mississauga. This invasive insect causes tree destruction by feeding on the leaves of oak and other deciduous trees. After repeated defoliation, trees may die or become so weakened that they are vulnerable to secondary infestations. Read More
