This year, 140 streets have been added to the program. Residents eligible for the Vacuum Leaf Collection Program will receive a postcard in the mail with their collection dates. These cards are delivered on a staggered schedule so that they arrive approximately two weeks before the zone’s first pickup.
Residents are instructed to rake leaves to the boulevard or into their ditch by the Sunday prior to their leaf collection dates. Leaves should not be raked onto the road as this can cause catch basins to become blocked and impact road drainage when it rains.
Residents who miss their leaf pickup, or who have additional leaves to collect after the program has ended, can rake their leaves into open reusable containers or paper yard waste bags and place them curbside for pick up by the Region of Peel on their regular waste collection day until December 11, 2020. This option is also available to residents who do not qualify for the Vacuum Leaf Collection Program.
As you are aware, it is difficult to predict when the leaves will fall. Our goal is to collect as many leaves as possible with each scheduled pickup. The program is weather dependent so snowfall would impact service delivery.
Autumn Street Sweeping on All Residential Roads:
The City’s street sweeping contractor will begin an autumn street sweeping operation for all residential streets on October 13th. This will help to clear any early leaf drop and summer debris from the roads and catch basins. We expect this work to be concluded the week of October 26th, weather permitting.
How do I prepare for leaf pickup?
Rake your leaves into a neat pile on the boulevard’s edge or into your ditch by Sunday of the week prior to your scheduled Vacuum Leaf Pickup. Do not mix items such as wood, brick or brush with leaves as it could damage equipment or injure workers.
What if more leaves fall after the scheduled leaf pickup?
Please put the leaves in paper yard waste bags, bushel baskets or reusable containers without lids. Place at the curbside for pickup by the Region of Peel on your regular waste collection day until December 11, 2020.
