Based on the advice of Peel Public Health, Mississauga Council approved an extension to the City’s Mandatory Face Mask By-Law to March 31, 2022.
The Mandatory Face Mask By-Law requires everyone (subject to some exceptions) to wear a medical or non-medical mask inside buildings where the public is ordinarily invited or permitted access. This by-law also applies to those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
“As we continue to respond to COVID-19 in our community, we have to do everything possible to stop the spread and wearing a mask, especially indoors, is one way we can continue to do our part,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “As we enter the fall, we expect that more people will start spending more time indoors which is why I am very supportive of Dr. Loh’s recommendation to extend the face mask by-law to March 2022.”
The Mandatory Face Mask By-law was amended earlier this year stating that face coverings such as face shields, scarves, bandanas, neck gaiters or neck warmers are no longer permitted. Approved face masks are defined as a mask that is constructed of at least two layers of tightly woven fabric, with a third middle layer of filter-type material, that is secured to the head or ears and that fully covers the mouth, nose and chin without gaping.
