Today, the Government of Ontario extended the Stay-at-Home Order for an additional two weeks to May 20, 2021  and announced further provincewide restrictions effective 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021.

“I know that the extension of the Stay-at-Home Order, as well as newly announced restrictions, will be tough on so many people in our community. But what’s clear is that more is needed to be done to stop the rampant spread of this virus across Mississauga and all of Ontario,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I ask that you please continue to follow the advice of our health experts. My hope is that the extended Stay-at-Home Order will help us keep these variants at bay while we continue to vaccinate more and more residents in our community.”

The Stay-at-Home Order requires everyone to remain at home except for essential reasons, such as grocery shopping, going to the pharmacy, accessing health care services (including getting vaccinated), outdoor exercise or for work that cannot be done remotely.

Effective Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., further restrictions include, but are not limited to:

  • Closing all outdoor recreational amenities: golf courses, basketball courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds with limited exceptions.
  • Prohibiting all outdoor social gatherings and organized public events, except for with members of the same household or one other person from outside that household who lives alone or a caregiver for any member of the household.
  • Closing all non-essential workplaces in the construction sector.
  • Reducing capacity limits to 25 per cent in all retail settings where in-store shopping is permitted. This includes supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, indoor farmers’ markets, other stores that primarily sell food and pharmacies.
  • Limiting the capacity of weddings, funerals, religious services, rites or ceremonies to 10 people indoors or outdoors (effective Monday, April 19, 2021, at 12:01 a.m.)
