March 3, 2021
Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is excited to celebrate International Women’s Day with a new virtual exhibition about inspiring women, launching in mid-March and an accompanying Tuesday Trivia Challenge on March 23.
Inspiring Stories of Women in the PAMA Collections
Launching mid-March
Inspiring women are found in all three of the PAMA collections from the Art Gallery, Museum and Archives. Some of the names are familiar, like Anne of Green Gables’ author Lucy Maud Montgomery, a regular visitor to Brampton. But many of their stories have faded from the public’s memory. We hope to change that.
Whether an artist, a postal worker, an entrepreneur, or a United Nations diplomat, each woman has shaped our community. Here is a list of the women who will be featured in the March exhibit:
- Sarah Gill – Postal worker
- Lillian Gordon – Educator
- Ruth Houck – UN Delegate
- Dr. Emily Irvine – Physician
- Annie May Johnston – Quilter
- Daphne Lingwood – Entrepreneur
- Marion Long – Artist
- Lucy Maud Montgomery – Author
- Sarama Mukherjee – Educator
- Tanya Mullings – Singer
- Matsubara Naoko – Artist
- Mitsuko Shirley Teramoto – Educator
- Mary Evelyn Wrinch – Artist
This is just the beginning. There are many stories to share, and this exhibition will grow over time.
