The Peel Region Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.

Your water will be turned off on Thursday, August 1st, 9:00am to 5:00pm. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

Property owner/manager responsibilities during a water interruption

As a property owner/manager, it is your responsibility to:

  • Ensure maintenance, mechanical or plumbing staff are on site during the water interruption, as it may affect internal systems that rely on water such as boilers, fire suppression, and alarms.
  • Notify the fire alarm company if the interruption could affect an alarm system.
  • Have a fire watch completed during the water interruption, as the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function when the water supply is shut off.

After the water interruption

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor, and finishing on the top floor). You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds. Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.

Important note

After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking the water meter (usually located in the basement). If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

Starter Company Plus 2024 Program Information

The Invest Mississauga/IDEA team is excited to share the Starter Company Plus 2024 program is open and accepting registrations for two virtual information sessions. The sessions are mandatory for program applicants and take place on the following dates:

  • August 6th  1pm – 2pm
  • August 8th  6:30pm – 7:30 pm

The Starter Company Plus program offers start ups and existing businesses free training and mentorship and the opportunity to apply for a $5000 grant.  Anyone interested in applying must attend one of these info sessions.

Wildlife Relocation & Wildlife Resources and Education

Animal Services provides a range of animal related services, including animal care, education, enforcement services and pet licensing. Staff respond to concerns regarding animal-related safety and nuisance issues, while working with residents to promote responsible pet ownership. The Animal Care and Control By-law guides the work of Animal Services, outlining regulations aimed at safeguarding animal well-being.

Wildlife Relocation

Mississauga is home to diverse wildlife, which can be observed in both public and private spaces. It is important for residents to learn how to respond or interact with wildlife of various life stages during different seasons and how to protect themselves, their homes and their pets from unwanted encounters with nuisance wildlife.

Animal Services acts in accordance with the provincial government’s wildlife laws and regulations and refrains from the removal of healthy wildlife on private and public property. Provincial laws generally prohibit capturing and relocating live wildlife except in specific circumstances where the owner is protecting their property. For relocation to be viable, residents must proactively make their property less attractive to wildlife. This includes removing food attractants, eliminating sources of drinking water, and wildlife-proofing their residence.

Animal Services provides the following services to address nuisance wildlife:

  • Removal of animals that are accessible and deemed sick, injured, or distressed;
    • Animals are accessible if they are on the ground and in open spaces;
  • Removal of wildlife that are carriers of the rabies virus (e.g. racoons, skunks, bats) from accessible interior dwelling spaces where they pose an immediate threat to safety; and
  • Direct residents to qualified contractors to assist with the removal of nuisance wildlife from private property.

Wildlife Resource & Education

Animal Services provides extensive resources and educational materials to assist residents in addressing wildlife related concerns. By visiting www.mississauga.ca/wildlife, residents can access valuable information on how to responsibly interact with wildlife throughout the year and safeguard their homes and pets from unwanted encounters with nuisance animals. Additionally, attached to this email are pamphlets and brochures developed by Animal Services for wildlife resident education.

For inquiries regarding healthy nuisance wildlife, residents have multiple avenues for assistance. They can visit the City’s website, call 311, or email mypet.info@mississauga.ca to connect with a dedicated Public Education Officer. Through these channels, residents can obtain the necessary contacts if they encounter healthy wildlife on their property and report instances of ill or injured wildlife.

Your water will be turned off on July 30th between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

As a property owner/manager, it is your responsibility to:
• Notify all residents/tenants in the building of the upcoming water interruption. A poster is included for posting in highly visible areas (lobbies, mailrooms, and/or elevators) or photocopying for each unit.

• Notify the fire alarm company if the interruption could affect an alarm system.

Summer construction in Peel supports roadway safety

Road maintenance and construction activities are carried out in the spring, summer, and fall across Peel Region. Daily road maintenance keeps our transportation network in good condition, promotes safer travel in Peel for all road users, and helps to meet the needs of our growing community.

Peel’s summer road maintenance and construction projects align with the goal of Vision Zero to help reduce and eliminate injuries and fatal collisions on our roads. Through summer projects such as crack sealing, line painting, and the completion of high-priority capital projects, Peel extends the life of our roadway assets while promoting safer travel throughout the Region.

Capital road projects

Capital projects are often long-term and large-scale plans designed to improve the quality and safety of Peel’s roadways. Peel is currently working on:

  • Widening Mississauga Road, from Bovaird Drive to Mayfield Road.
  • The Gore Road reconstruction, from Patterson Sideroad to Hwy 9.
  • The rehabilitation of Old Main St from Caledon Mountain Drive to River Road, and Bush St from Old Main St to East of Shaws Creek Road.
  • Culvert replacement on Charleston Sideroad 0.6km east of Autumn Drive, and on Charleston Sideroad at Winston Churchill Blvd.
  • Noise wall installation on Bovaird Drive, east of Hwy 410 (east of Sunny Meadow Boulevard to Airport Road).
  • Bridge rehabilitation on Queen St. over Spring Creek.

Crack sealing

Crack sealing is maintenance work which addresses issues with stressed or aging asphalt. By sealing cracks in asphalt, we prevent water and debris from entering and worsening cracks which extends the lifespan of our roadways.

Line painting

Line painting occurs every year to increase the visibility of the road markings which guide and direct all types of road users. Peel’s roads support high volumes of vehicle traffic, which cause markings to fade quickly or become hard to see. If you’re driving and approach a truck re-painting our roadways, be sure to leave space or choose a different route to avoid contact with wet paint.

Safe travel in work zones

Every day, people in our community are working on or near roads, and they’re counting on you to slow down and travel with caution.

Daily maintenance activities such as sign and signal repair, safety barrier maintenance, pothole patching, litter removal, and grass cutting on roadsides take place alongside summer road maintenance projects. These activities require traffic control, temporary lane restrictions, and the presence of work zones.

Work zones can be difficult to move through, so it’s important that all road users are patient, cautious and alert. This summer, play your part in work zone safety by driving carefully, cycling slowly, and walking only in designated pedestrian areas. Transportation safety is a shared responsibility; let’s work together to protect every driver, cyclist, and pedestrian on our roads so that we all get home safely.
