Please note that the above will be filming interior and exterior scenes for a TV series “VICAP/Clarice” at 2063 Proverbs Dr (Ward 1) on January 12 from 7:00am – 11:00pm. Prep will take place on January 11 and wrap on January 13 from 7:00am – 7:00pm on each day.

A permit has been granted to allow parking on the following from January 11, 7:00am – January 13, 11:00pm:

  • One side of Proverbs Dr from Brentano Blvd to Sherway Dr
  • One side of Brentano Blvd from Feldwood Rd to Sunnycove Dr
  • One side of Kalligan Crt

Camera equipment on the roadway, boulevard and sidewalk has been permitted as long as two-way traffic is maintained at all times and to allow maximum 3-minute traffic stoppages on Proverbs Dr under the supervision of Peel Regional Police not between the hours of 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm.

Opening of Lakeview Golf Course 2 km Winter Walking Trail

It was exciting to be at the first day of the Lakeview Golf Course 2 km Winter Walking Trail. It is great for safe winter hikes or snowshoeing with your family! The trail is open daily from 10am-4pm, there’s free parking, washroom available and leashed dogs are welcome too.
I wanted to give a big thank you to the City’s Staff and Kristina and Jamie for working with me on this fun initiative.

Scheduled Water Supply Interruption on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.

SCHEDULED WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION

Dear Customer:

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a reliable supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do the work. In the next few days, we will be working in your area and will have to turn off your water for a few hours.

Your water will be turned off on Monday, January 11, 2021 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, if the weather is bad or if a problem arises, we will reschedule the work and will let you know the new date and time.

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise. If this happens, you can remove the air by briefly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well.

You should only have to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds, but keep running it until the water is clear and any vibration or noise has stopped.

If your water meter starts to leak, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

Lakeview Golf Course Open for Walking and Snowshoeing

I am pleased to announce a pilot project of a walking trail through the Lakeview Golf Course. The ungroomed marked trail will be open for walking and snowshoeing starting Thursday, January 7th Available Daily from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Free of Charge.
Limited staff will be onsite to monitor uptake and provide general oversight to the course, however no pre-reservation or check-in will be required.
Free Parking and Washrooms will be available to Visitors. Leashed Dogs will be welcomed.

Mayor Crombie Invites Mississauga Residents to Watch Special New Year’s Levee Video

Mayor Bonnie Crombie will share a special video address to Mississauga residents as part of the Mayor’s annual New Year’s Levee tradition. The Mayor’s Levee is typically a time when residents have the opportunity to meet the Mayor and Members of Council for a family-friendly event at the Civic Centre; however, this year’s Levee is being delivered virtually.

Mayor Crombie’s New Year’s greetings to residents and Council’s best wishes for the upcoming year will be available online on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at noon on the City’s YouTube channel.

Background

The Mayor’s Levee is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century, during the reign of King Louis XIV. To show the monarch belonged to the people, the King would invite gentlemen to his bedroom on New Year’s Day to watch him wake up and begin serving the public. The Royal Governor of New France later brought this custom to Canada where it continues to be a new year’s tradition.

City Announces New Director of Mississauga Library

The City of Mississauga has selected Rona O’Banion as Director, Mississauga Library, effective February 1, 2021. Ms. O’Banion replaces Lori Kelly, who is now the City’s Director, Human Resources.

“I am pleased to welcome Rona to the leadership team,” said Shari Lichterman, Commissioner, Community Services. “She is joining at an exciting time as the Library continues to deliver the services our customers rely on now and into the future. My thanks to Jennifer Stirling for her leadership as Acting Director during the pandemic and transition period.”

O’Banion has 18 years experience as CEO of three Ontario library systems – Wainfleet Township Public Library, Brock Township Public Library and for the past nine years at King Township Public Library.

Her career highlights include transforming and modernizing libraries. Her strategic and capital planning experience includes the development of the new 22,000 sq. ft. multi-use King City Public Library and Seniors Centre and renovation projects in other library systems. O’Banion has also been instrumental in leveraging technology to support change management, library advocacy and staff development.

On behalf of the Mississauga Library Board, Chair Val Ohori commented, “Our Board welcomes Rona to Mississauga and our library team.  In this period of accelerated change, we look forward to working with her to help our communities thrive by providing excellent and evolving services.  We also extend a very big thank you to Jennifer and staff for establishing safe and creative ways to continue service through these challenging times.”

O’Banion holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from York University in History and Political Science, and a Masters of Library Science from the University of Toronto.

She is recognized as a leader in the broader Ontario library sector. O’Banion has served on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries (FOPL) and various task forces. She has also served as Chair of the Administrators of Medium-sized Public Libraries of Ontario (AMPLO) and Chair of the Library Services Centre (LSC).

Why:  A temporary road closure is required for the purpose of building a shaft in order to upgrade the watermain.

Outdoor winter activities during Lockdown

Exercise and focusing on mental health remains a priority, even while Lockdown measures are in place.

As part of the Government of Ontario’s Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework, Mississauga residents are reminded to limit close contact to their households only until restrictions have been lifted.

Check out some of these outdoor activities and amenities that you can enjoy safely in Mississauga.

Go for a wintery walk along one of Mississauga’s trails

The majority of the City’s trails receive regular winter maintenance and can be safely used and explored by outdoor enthusiasts. However, trails that do not receive winter maintenance are still used in the snowy months by residents who enjoy activities including snowshoeing and deep-snow hiking. This year, the City will be adding additional woodchips to the woodlot trails to help with traction. The trails will also be marked for winter use.

Take advantage of the City’s available park amenities

The below park amenities will be open this year for use by the community. Visit the City’s interactive map to search for a park by location or filter parks for specific features, including those listed below:

  • Leash-free zones
  • Toboggan hills
  • Boxed soccer (pitches will be left unlocked for community use)
  • Outdoor sport courts
  • Playgrounds
  • Picnic shelters
  • Outdoor fitness equipment
  • Secondary sports fields
  • Artificial fields (will be left unlocked for community use)

Park washrooms designed for year-round use will remain open this season with enhanced cleaning practices. Portable washrooms will also be placed later this month in high-demand locations and key trail areas. The washrooms will be winterized and accessible and will be located in areas that receive winter maintenance. See the list of public washrooms and portable washrooms here.

As close contact increases the highest risk of COVID-19 transmission, it is crucial that residents

observe outdoor etiquette to help keep everyone safe. This includes keeping their distance from others and passing safely while using the same trails and pathways. Also, even when outdoors, wear a face covering if physical distancing cannot be maintained.

3-1-1 Holiday Hours

During the holiday season, you can call 3-1-1 with questions about COVID-19, or to report any non-compliance related to gatherings and non-essential businesses. Call 3-1-1 if you wish to report:

  • Open non-essential businesses
  • Events or gatherings in private homes or in public or commercial venues
