Mississauga remembers with City Hall ceremony on November 11

On November 11, the City of Mississauga will honour Canadian Armed Forces past and present with an outdoor ceremony at City Hall. City officials and dignitaries will gather at the outdoor Community Memorial at 10:30 a.m. to pay tribute to Canada’s veterans. Members of the public may attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in person or watch it online.

Canadian soldiers and veterans will be honoured with a moment of silence and the laying of wreaths.

Saturday, November 11, 2023
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Where:
Mississauga City Hall, Outdoor Community Memorial
(Memorial located at northwest corner of Mississauga Celebration Square)

Those unable to attend the ceremony can watch the live stream online.

Interested media that wish to cover the ceremony are asked to RSVP to media@mississauga.ca by 3 p.m. on Friday, November 10.

Also on November 11, veterans can ride MiWay for free with one friend.

Veterans should wear items such as uniforms, medals or carry items that identify them to transit operators. As a sign of respect to Canadian veterans, all buses will stop for two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11.

Remembrance Day events in Mississauga

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #82
The annual Remembrance Day parade will be held on Saturday, November 11. The parade will begin in front of Branch #82 Royal Canadian Legion at 35 Front St. in Port Credit at 9:30 a.m. and will march from the Legion Hall to Trinity Anglican Church on Stavebank Rd. for a church service. Following this, there will be a short service at 11 a.m. in front of the cenotaph that will include the laying of wreaths.

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #139
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and the service conducted by the Streetsville Legion at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph in the Village Square. The service will include the laying of wreaths and a moment of silence.

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #582
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to meet in the parking lot of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church at 719 Dundas St. E and the parade will lead to the cenotaph. The service will start at 10:30 a.m.

Light Up the Square 2023

Celebrate the magic of winter in the heart of Mississauga at Light Up the Square

Join the fun on Saturday November 25th, as we light the Christmas tree for the first time this season. There will be ice skating, live performances, and the Holiday Street Market will be offering tasty treats and artisanal goods all night long.
The magic doesn’t stop there. Mississauga’s downtown transforms into a technicolour wonderland as six glowing art installations make their home at Celebration Square and Living Arts Centre (LAC) Park from November 25 until January 2.
7:00 p.m. – Lighting of the Christmas Tree and holiday lights.
Official opening of the City’s largest outdoor skating rink.
Skate rentals are available on-site.
The Holiday Street Market by Street Eats brings artisan and food vendors to get you in the holiday spirit.
Snap a photo with Santa and the elves at the Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan.
Explore six glowing public art installations across Celebration Square and LAC Park.
Live music and exciting performances all night long.

City Asset Naming Project – Community Meeting: November 2, 2023

The names of our streets, community centres and parks help tell our City’s story. Naming these is an honour and should be taken seriously. That is why we are reviewing and gathering community feedback about our naming policies and processes; working to ensure we have an equitable, diverse and inclusive approach to naming in the future. You are invited to join us at a community meeting to voice your thoughts and provide feedback on the City’s guiding principles related to naming, place-making and commemoration.

Community meeting where all are welcome to come and share their thoughts and feedback on the guiding principles, developed with research and in consultation with the community, for future naming, placemaking and commemoration.

Who:

All Mississauga community members interested in learning more about the City’s future approach to naming, placemaking and commemoration. Particularly those from South Asian, Black, Indigenous or other racialized communities.

Open House – Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant

The open house showcases how the state-of-the art plant treats and distributes 570 million litres of safe, quality drinking water to Peel homes, schools, and workplaces each day.

The event is being held in recognition of Imagine a Day Without Water an international day that raises awareness about the value of water as an essential resource.
