Dust off your bike and pump up your tires, because Community Rides are back. Whether you’re new to cycling or a cycling expert, come out and enjoy one of the City’s Community Rides. Community Rides are free, guided rides that allow you to enjoy your neighbourhood by bike, meet new people and connect with your community all while exploring Mississauga’s growing cycling infrastructure.

As a rider, you’ll have the choice to join an in-person ride or enjoy the routes at a time of your choosing using the online bike route map. Starting Saturday, June 3, Community Rides will be taking place every two weeks until the end of October. All rides take place in different neighbourhoods in Mississauga and range between five to 24 kilometres in length.

What:
Community Rides are free, guided bike rides that take place across Mississauga on a variety of cycling infrastructure, including on-road bike lanes, shared pathways and multi-use trails.

Who:
Mississauga residents of all ages and cycling abilities who want to be active outdoors and are interested in seeing their neighbourhood and city by bike.

When/where:

Community Rides will take place every two weeks between June and October.

Those interested in participating in the group-style rides must register and be at the starting location for the start time. City staff will be onsite at the starting location to help guide participants and answer any questions.

• Saturday, June 24 – Malton ride, starts at Malton Community Centre
• Saturday, July 15 – Cooksville ride, starts at Huron Park Recreation Centre
• Saturday, July 22 – Lakeview-Mineola ride, starts at Port Credit Arena
• Saturday, July 29 – Streetsville ride, starts at Vic Johnston Community Centre
• Saturday, August 12 – Applewood ride, starts at Garnetwood Park
• Saturday, August 19 – Sheridan ride, starts at Sheridan Park
• Saturday, August 26 – Lisgar ride, starts at Tobias Mason Park
• Saturday, September 9 – Meadowvale ride, starts at Meadowvale Community Centre
• Saturday, September 23 – University of Toronto Mississauga ride, starts at University of Toronto Mississauga campus
• Saturday, October 14 – Salmon run ride, starts at Erindale Park
• Saturday, October 28 – Fall colours and Halloween ride, starts at Samuelson Park

Registration for these in-person guided rides is required.

Cycling etiquette and road rules

Riders are reminded to follow all rules of the road and obey shared trail etiquette while cycling in Mississauga. Remember to:

• Wear a helmet:
  • Helmets must be worn by cyclists under the age of 18. However, everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet when riding their bike.
• Be courteous to other trail users:
  • Always keep to the right of the trail, particularly if you are traveling at a slower speed.
  • If passing others, always pass on your left and use your bell or a signal before passing another cyclist or pedestrian.
• Be aware of others:
  • Don’t block the trail. If stopping for a break, pull off to the side or off of the trail completely.
  • When approaching a sharp turn on your bike that obstructs your view, approach slowly, use your bell or give a verbal warning and proceed when clear to do so.
• Be seen and be safe:
  • Make sure your bike has a light and reflectors that can be seen by others.

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate and uplift the 2SLGBTQ+ community, while recognizing the progress made towards equal treatment and human rights.

Lighting the clock tower

June 01, 2023 | Evening | Celebration Square

To recognize this important month, the Civic Centre clock tower will be lit with a rainbow of colours on June 1 and all other evenings in June when another cause isn’t scheduled to be recognized.

Progress Pride flag raising event

June 03, 2023 | 11:00 a.m. | Celebration Square

The City will raise the Progress Pride Flag at Mississauga Celebration Square (MCS) with Rainbow Sauga Alliance to honour Pride Month and our 2SLGBTQ+ community. Video greetings from Mayor Bonnie Crombie will be shared and Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services will participate by showcasing this year’s colourful Pride fire truck. Members of the public are invited to take part in this event.

Pride park benches

The City is proud to display rainbow-coloured Pride benches in select parks. The community can view these at Port Credit Memorial Park and Scholars’ Green, located next to Sheridan College’s Hazel McCallion Campus.

n Saturday, May 27, the City is celebrating these professionals and recognizing the important work they do with the return of its National Public Works Week Family Fun Day – and you’re invited!As part of National Public Works Week (May 21-27, 2023), Family Fun Day provides you with an opportunity to meet City staff and learn more about their work through a variety of interactive family-friendly activities. Get up close to the equipment and trucks and join in on fun, educational activities.

About Public Works in the City of Mississauga:

The City maintains 5,700 lane kilometres of roads, 2,420 kilometres of sidewalks, 51,000 catch basins, one thousand pedestrian crossings, more than three thousand bus stops as well as multi-use trails and cycling infrastructure. Canada’s Largest Multicultural Festival, Celebrating it’s 38th Anniversary!

Carassauga’s vision is to organize a city-wide multicultural festival to promote understanding, respect and co-operation among all Canadians of different heritage, celebrating the diversity of Mississauga. Carassauga provides the opportunity for ethnocultural communities to promote and celebrate their culture through entertainment, food, arts and education.

Festival Highlights for 2023
• 25 Countries showcasing their cultural entertainment, food, art and history
• 5 locations throughout Mississauga (in arenas, community centres, and community halls)
• 11 stages with non-stop entertainment including a variety of dance, music, singing, fashion
shows, etc.
• Indulge in our Toonie Taste experience. For visitors wishing to enjoy a broader sampling of diverse
ethnic cuisine. Small taster plates will be offered at Pavilions for only a Toonie!
• Learn about each culture through interactive dance lessons, arts and crafts, cooking demos etc.

• FREE Ridership on all MiWay buses and shuttle buses during the Festival hours with a Carassauga pass and FREE parking at all locations
