Housing Information Session: Increasing Housing Choices in Neighbourhoods

Mississauga needs more housing options for families, older adults, students and others who want to live in low-rise neighbourhoods. On December 6, join City staff and housing industry experts for a virtual panel discussion and Q&A session. Learn more about the:

* Current state of housing in Canadian communities

* Role of gentle density in reviving neighbourhoods

* Work underway to bring more housing options to Mississauga neighbourhoods

City staff will also take feedback on a new project to remove barriers for semi-detached homes and houses on smaller lots. This is another way that the City can help make more housing available in low-rise neighbourhoods.

Regional Council to begin deliberating Peel’s proposed 2024 Budget tomorrow (November 16th, 2023)

BRAMPTON, ON. (Nov. 15, 2023) – Regional Council discussions of Peel’s 2024 Operating and Capital Budgets begin tomorrow morning.

The meeting will commence with the Regional Budget Corporate Overview presentation at 9:30 a.m., followed by the presentation for Peel Regional Police.

On Nov. 23, the Regional Council budget meeting will continue with presentations for nine Regionally Controlled Services: Housing Support, Water and Wastewater, Transportation, Paramedics, Seniors Services, Public Health, Community Investment, Waste Management, and Early Years and Child Care. On Nov. 30, the Regional Council budget meeting will continue with presentations for Regionally Financed External Organizations: Credit Valley Conservation, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

The Regional Council Budget meeting(s) are open to the public and residents may attend. The meetings will also be live streamed on peelregion.ca.

Virtual information session: learn more about the City’s 2024 Budget

Mississauga residents are invited to participate in the annual citywide Budget Information Session where the City’s proposed 2024 Budget will be discussed.
The session will include insights from the Mayor, Members of Council and senior City leadership on the City’s budget priorities, programs and services. Residents will also have the opportunity to ask budget-related questions and participate in the discussion. The session will be held on Tuesday, November 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The 2024 Budget focuses on investments in the City’s infrastructure, including transit, roads and emergency services. These investments are aimed at advancing public safety, continuing progress with climate change and implementing Vision Zero actions.

At random, select Mississauga residents will receive a phone call in advance of the session with an invitation to participate. They will receive a second phone call just before the session begins. The callout is to ensure as many residents as possible have an opportunity to participate. Anyone who gets a call and does not wish to participate can hang up.

If you don’t receive an advanced phone call, you can pre-register before Friday, November 24 to participate or ask questions in the citywide 2024 Budget Information Session.

Community Meeting Regarding 70 Mississauga Road South (Brightwater) – Thursday November 16th from 6:30-8pm – Port Credit Legion

The Port Credit West Village Partners Inc. (Brightwater) is interested in submitting an application for official plan amendment and rezoning for additional units within the existing approved density permissions (Gross Floor Area).

No additional gross floor area/density is being proposed as part of this application. The request may also include minor technical amendments to the approved zoning provisions.

A Community Meeting is being hosted by Councillor Stephen Dasko prior to Brightwater formally submitting a development application to allow Brightwater and the City to hear the thoughts of the local residents early in the process.

Mississauga remembers with City Hall ceremony on November 11

On November 11, the City of Mississauga will honour Canadian Armed Forces past and present with an outdoor ceremony at City Hall. City officials and dignitaries will gather at the outdoor Community Memorial at 10:30 a.m. to pay tribute to Canada’s veterans. Members of the public may attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in person or watch it online.

Canadian soldiers and veterans will be honoured with a moment of silence and the laying of wreaths.

Those unable to attend the ceremony can watch the live stream online.

Interested media that wish to cover the ceremony are asked to RSVP to media@mississauga.ca by 3 p.m. on Friday, November 10.

Also on November 11, veterans can ride MiWay for free with one friend.

Veterans should wear items such as uniforms, medals or carry items that identify them to transit operators. As a sign of respect to Canadian veterans, all buses will stop for two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11.

Remembrance Day events in Mississauga

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #82
The annual Remembrance Day parade will be held on Saturday, November 11. The parade will begin in front of Branch #82 Royal Canadian Legion at 35 Front St. in Port Credit at 9:30 a.m. and will march from the Legion Hall to Trinity Anglican Church on Stavebank Rd. for a church service. Following this, there will be a short service at 11 a.m. in front of the cenotaph that will include the laying of wreaths.

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #139
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and the service conducted by the Streetsville Legion at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph in the Village Square. The service will include the laying of wreaths and a moment of silence.

Royal Canadian Legion: Branch #582
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to meet in the parking lot of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church at 719 Dundas St. E and the parade will lead to the cenotaph. The service will start at 10:30 a.m.
