ADVANCE NOTICE Watermain/Sanitary Sewer Replacement and Improvement Indian Road, Kane Road and Mineola Road West

By Resources, Ward 1

The Region of Peel anticipates replacing the watermain and sanitary sewers in your area within the next two years, as shown on the attached map.
• Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment plants to your neighbourhood.
• Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home or business to a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater is created when water goes down the drain or is flushed down the toilet.
As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace older watermains and sewers to keep providing high quality water and wastewater services to you.

Important note

This upcoming construction will take place in the municipal right-of-way. The municipal right-of way includes the street and the land owned by your city between the street and your water service box (small, round metal valve in either your driveway or lawn). This work may impact the bottom of your driveway and the area around the sidewalk. We therefore recommend delaying any major landscaping or driveway paving until after this construction has been completed.

Heated Driveway
Construction in some areas may impact the bottom of your driveway. If you have a heated driveway, please contact the Region using the email or phone number below to let us know.

Before construction begins
Before we start construction, you may notice several activities in your area:
1. We will survey your street and use temporary spray paint or flags to mark the location of underground gas, hydro, and cable on roads, driveways, and lawns.
2. We may drill holes in the road or municipal right-of-way (the land between the street and your water service box) to collect soil samples, determine ground conditions, or confirm utility locations.
3. We will take pictures and record video to help us restore the area as close as possible to its former condition, after construction takes place.
We expect these activities to take place in the next few weeks.

What to expect during construction
Learn what to expect during watermain construction by visiting peelregion.ca/construction/watermain and watching our short video. The video goes behind the scenes to show what happens before, during and after construction. This website also answers common questions about:
• Why your water may be temporarily shut off,
• How traffic, parking, and waste collection may be affected,
• How driveways, roads and sod (grass) are repaired after construction is finished.

Keeping you informed
We are currently in the early planning stages, so we can’t give exact dates for when we will do the work.
In addition, as your city’s future planning activities may change, we may alter our plans to replace watermains and sanitary sewers in your neighbourhood. We will deliver more detailed information to your home or business closer to the proposed construction date.

SCHEDULED WATER INTERRUPTION NOTICE – Wednesday, July 12, 2023 – 29 Stavebank Road

By Resources, Ward 1

INTERRUPTION DETAILS

Date and Time:         Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 06:00 a.m. to 08:00 a.m.

Location:                    29 Stavebank Road, Mississauga

Addresses Affected20-30 Stavebank Rd, 12-35 Park St

Project #:                   C- 603231

Regional Inspector:  John Sedore

Telephone #               905-791-7800 ext. 3246/3247

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.

Your water will be turned off on   Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from approximately    06:00 a.m. to 08:00 a.m.     If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

If this interruption may affect an alarm or maintenance company, it is your responsibility to notify them.  During the time that the water supply is interrupted, the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function.  A fire watch should be performed as necessary during time.

After the water interruption:

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise.  We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well. You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds.  Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.

Important note:  After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking your water meter (usually located in the basement).  If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:

  • (905) 791 – 7800 Ext. 3226 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Monday to Friday)
  • (905) 791 – 7800 Ext. 4409 (After hours or Statutory Holidays)
