In accordance with the changes made by the Province under the Planning Act, amendments to Mississauga Official Plan and Site Plan Control By-law are required to reflect the revised site plan matters that a municipality can secure via the Site Plan Control process.

Amendments to Mississauga Official Plan are also being introduced to enable alternative notice policies, which allow public notification of planning applications and initiatives through digital print newspaper as a result of the ceasing of print newspaper editions in Mississauga.

The proposed Official Plan amendment is exempt from approval by the Region of Peel. The decision of City Council is final if a notice of appeal is not received on or before the last day for filing a notice of appeal.

If a person or public body would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of City of Mississauga Council to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the City before the proposed official plan (or official plan amendment) is adopted, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.

PUBLIC NOTICE: NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant Reservoir Expansion

The Study
Peel Region has initiated a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal ClassEnvironmental Assessment (Class EA) for the reservoir expansion at the Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant (WTP) (See Figure). The approximate limits of the study area include the area around the Arthur P. Kennedy WTP from Lakeshore Road East southerly to Lake Ontario, and from just east of Montbeck Crescent to East Avenue extending to the eastern limits of the Douglas Kennedy Park.

Peel’s Water and Wastewater Master Plan (2020) and updated 2051 population forecast identified that the treated water storage is insufficient at this WTP. The purpose of this project is to identify a preferred solution and design concept that provides a cost-effective and environmentally sound means of providing additional treated water storage to ensure long-term reliable water treatment and supply of this lake-based system.

The Process
The Class EA study will be conducted in accordance with the approved requirements for a Schedule ‘C’ project as described in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class EA document (October 2000, as amended). A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders (Indigenous communities, public, landowners and agencies). Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held throughout the Study to provide an update, as well as an opportunity to provide comments. The first PIC held on October 18th, 2023, provided a summary of the background information, the need and justification, and an overview of the alternative solutions being considered.

Public Information Centre
The second PIC will be held on April 17, 2024. The purpose of this PIC is to update the public on the project’s status and advise stakeholders of the preliminary preferred solution. The PIC will also provide an opportunity for those who are interested to provide their feedback on the project. We invite you to drop-in during this time.

Public Notice: PEEL WASTEWATER TREATMENT SOLUTIONS NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION G.E. Booth Water Resource Recovery Facility Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment

Background:

The Region of Peel will experience significant growth over the next 20+ years with a 40 percent increase in people and jobs anticipated by 2041. In the Region of Peel, wastewater from users is collected through a network of sewers and pumping stations and treated at either the G.E. Booth Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) or the Clarkson WRRF. As the population grows, there is insufficient capacity at the WRRFs to meet the future wastewater treatment needs. That is why the Region initiated two Schedule C Class Environmental Assessments (EAs) for the G.E. Booth and Clarkson WRRFs to identify and develop preferred solutions for wastewater treatment and biosolids management to meet approved regional growth. While the early stages (Phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA process) of these studies were completed in parallel, the later stages (Phases 3, 4, & 5 of the Class EA process) of the Clarkson study were advanced ahead of the G.E. Booth study. The G.E. Booth WRRF Schedule C Class EA was recently completed and is the subject of this Notice of Study Completion.

 

The Process:

The G.E. Booth WRRF study followed a Schedule ‘C’ Class EA process, including:
• Phase 1: A review of background information and identification of the problem/opportunity statement
• Phase 2: An evaluation of alternative solutions
• Phase 3: An evaluation of alternative technologies and site layouts for the preferred solutions
• Phase 4: Documentation of the process and its results in an Environmental Study Report (ESR)
• Phase 5: Conceptual design and implementation
Public and agency stakeholder consultation, including communications with Indigenous Communities, was and continues to be an important part of the Class EA process.

G.E. Booth WRRF Environmental Study Report (ESR):

The ESR will be available for a 45-day public review period starting March 13th, 2024 and ending April 27th, 2024, in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class EA process. An electronic copy of the ESR will be available for public review on the Region of Peel project webpage at:

Temporary Driveway Closures on Hurontario from Inglewood Drive to Pinetree Way

As work progresses on the Hazel McCallion LRT project, crews will be doing road widening works between Inglewood Drive and Pinetree Way along the west side of Hurontario Street. These works are scheduled to take place from March 11 to May 6, 2024. 

To safely accommodate these works, driveways for properties within this stretch will be intermittently and partially impacted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday for less than four hours. To accommodate motorists needing to enter and exit driveways impacted during working hours, a flag person will be present to help as needed. During this time, asphalt and concrete curbs will be removed, followed by excavation, curb preparation, concrete pour, and paving. Once the roadway has been widened, guideway construction in the area can begin later this year.

The attached notice was distributed to within a 500 meter radius of the working area. Immediately impacted property owners have been informed.

CALL TO ARTIST(S) – Lakeshore Mural Project

The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC), Peel Region, and Stantec are excited to unveil a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Lakeshore Mural Project (also known as the Lakeshore Road Artistic Hoarding Mural Project). This initiative seeks to commission four digital murals to adorn hoardings placed around various locations on Lakeshore Road in Port Credit, Mississauga. The RFP is exclusively open to professional artists based in Mississauga, aiming to offer significant artistic platforms for local talent.

“I was excited by this idea I put forward to Peel Region and the Mississauga Arts Council and they were happy to execute it,” says Ward 1 Councillor, Stephen Dasko, ”Over the next few years of construction taking place on the Lakeshore Trunk Sewer and Sub-transmission Main, we will have incredible local artists displaying their talents for everyone to enjoy!”

The digitally rendered hoarding murals will be placed in 4 locations in South Mississauga. Richard’s Memorial Park, Pine Avenue, Wesley Avenue, and 5A & 5B Front Street.

The Region of Peel Public Works department regularly maintains and repairs the water system to make sure you have a consistent supply of quality drinking water. Sometimes we must turn off your water supply while we do this work.

Your water will be turned off on Wednesday, March 13th, from approximately 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. If we need to reschedule this work due to weather or other circumstances, we will let you know the new date and time.

If this interruption may affect an alarm or maintenance company, it is your responsibility to notify them.  During the time that the water supply is interrupted, the building’s sprinkler protection system will not function.  A fire watch should be performed as necessary during time period.

After the water interruption:

When we turn the water back on, air in the pipes may make the water cloudy and your plumbing may vibrate or make noise.  We recommend removing the air by slowly turning on your taps from the lowest to the highest faucet in the building (that is, starting in the basement/first floor and finishing on the top floor). Flush the toilets as well. You will likely need to run the water for 10 to 30 seconds.  Run the water until it is clear, and any vibration or noise has stopped.

Important note:  After the water is turned back on, we recommend checking your water meter (usually located in the basement).  If it is leaking, call Water Meter Installations Dispatch at:
