The Government of Ontario announced a Provincewide shutdown to take effect on December 26, 2020 and remain in effect in Southern Ontario, including the Region of Peel until January 23, 2021. Prior to December 26, Mississauga remains in the Grey-Lockdown Level of the current COVID-19 Response Framework which will be paused when the Provincewide shutdown comes into effect.
In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, the Provincewide shutdown comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate. Additional restrictions will be put into place and reinforce that Ontarians should stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.

As of Saturday, January 9th, all GO train trips serving Niagara Falls will be suspended for the winter season to match customer demand and use our resources efficiently. We expect to resume the weekend service again in spring 2021. Read More

This week, the Government of Ontario announced Phase 2 of Municipal Operating funding as part of the Safe Restart Agreement between the federal government and the provinces and territories. The City of Mississauga is receiving $20.968 million in 2021 as part of the second round of funding through the municipal relief stream. This funding will offset the 2020 deficit, and the remainder will be used to offset anticipated 2021 pressures. This investment builds upon the first phase of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement announced this summer and will help municipal partners deliver critical services during COVID-19. Mississauga Library surpassed one million digital book checkouts in November 2020, two months earlier than anticipated.
This milestone demonstrates the continued growth and importance of libraries and digital lending of eBooks and Audiobooks at a time when the City’s library locations are faced with building closures and service changes due to COVID-19. Mississauga Library is one of 75 public library systems worldwide on track to surpass one million checkouts by the end of this year.

The City of Mississauga is reminding all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, micro-mobility users and drivers, to be safe this holiday season. As many gear up for the holidays, streets, sidewalks, trails, cycling paths and intersections will be busier as many people are distracted with to-do lists, errands and outdoor activities.

The City’s Parks, Forestry and Environment team is looking for resident feedback to help us plan for the future of the City’s in-ground dog waste containers in parks. Our current program has piloted containers in select parks and leash-free areas around the City. We are looking to gauge residents’ awareness of the program and their preferences for potential future container locations.
