Vacuum Leaf Collection Program Update

By Issues, Resources, Ward 1

We have received a number of requests for a third pick-up as leaves have now fallen from most of the trees.  After reviewing our budgets, resources and the weather for next week, staff can confirm we will extend the program into this week.  With this extension, we cannot guarantee we will be able to collect all remaining leaves.  Crews will go back and start in the YELLOW zones and collect any remaining leaves at the roadside, before moving on to the BLUE and then GREEN zones, weather permitting.

You can refer to the leaf pickup route map and schedule to find out if your street is part of the leaf pickup program.

Canada HomeShare has launched a pilot program in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. Run by the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE) with support from the Region of Peel, Peel HomeShare matches older adults who have a spare room with post-secondary students who need housing. Students pay $400-$600 a month for rent and contribute 5-7 hours/week of companionship and/or assistance around the home.

Applications for home providers and students are now being accepted for the January 2022 school term. The entire process, from application to finding an appropriate home share match, is carefully overseen by NICE social workers in accordance with all COVID-19 protocols.
