Middle Road Heritage Pedestrian Bridge – Notice of Closure for maintenance

Middle Road Bridge (end of Sherway Drive) will be closed from mid-September to early December 2021. The project will involve maintenance works including the replacement of bearing plates, concrete and heritage stone repairs and general preservation works.   These works are important as the last maintenance works were completed in 1985.

The Project is a joint project between the City of Mississauga and City of Toronto, with all works being done under heritage permitting.  There will be no visual changes to the structure.

Update as of November 22, 2021:

Works are to commence.

The contract has been awarded to Clearwater Construction, and works are to commence by months end.

This will mean a closure of the structure as previously outlined.

Site signs have been updated, on both City of Mississauga and City of Toronto sides.

Update on Carmen Corbasson Community Centre

Design

This project at Carmen Corbasson community centre will include:

    • An aquatic centre (6 lane, 25 meter lap pool and therapeutic tank) with spectacular views of the woodlot
    • An equipment based fitness centre on the 2ndfloor
    • New multi-purpose space on the ground level
    • Enhancements to existing multi-purpose spaces to improve social and recreation opportunities for the community
    • Renovations to areas of the indoor arena
    • Facility design modernization and improved accessibility within the building
    • The removal of the internal bus loop and introduction of the new bus shelter and stop on Cawthra Road will ensure increased pedestrian safety on the site, which will have covered walkways
    • Collaboration between City departments continues to take place to ensure the City’s Green Building Standards are integrated into the development.
  • Note:
    • The Seniors’ Centre will remain open throughout construction
    • The Cawthra Secondary School Pool will remain open during construction and close once the community centre re-opens

Schedule

  • The design portion of the project is on schedule, with preliminary construction to start mid 2022 and re-opening targeted for mid 2024.
  • The Site Plan application has been circulated to the City’s Planning and Building department and external agencies for review;
  • The project team is preparing to present to the City’s FADS and CPTED subcommittees to ensure the design is optimized to achieve these important City targets;

Public Engagement

  • Public information sessions occurred earlier this summer with members of the Mississauga Seniors Centre and local community. Excellent feedback was received on the proposed redevelopment plans from these sessions, as well as from the resident survey that was available online.

Applewood Creek Erosion Control Project at Lakeview Golf Course

Construction Work: On or after November 8, 2021 to July 15, 2022

Scope of Work

The City of Mississauga is performing stream restoration, erosion protection and golf course restoration along Applewood Creek within the Lakeview Golf Course. The golf course is on the west side of Dixie Road, north of Lakeshore Road East.

The realignment of the creek into a more sinuous (winding) form, stabilization of the channel bed, restoration of golf course irrigation lines, installation of bridge crossings, repair of asphalt cart paths and landscaping will also be completed as part of this project.

The project work will enhance public safety in the area, as well as protect property and City infrastructure from the hazards of erosion.

After project work is complete, the environmental health of the creek and fish habitat will improve. The golf course layout and player experience will also be enhanced, while still maintaining its heritage characteristics.

COVID-19 Update: Taking Steps to Stop the Spread

The construction project that will be taking place on your street is considered an essential service under the Ontario Regulation 82/20. The City’s Contractor is required to carry out all construction activities in accordance with all applicable laws, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (and regulations) and the advice, recommendations and instructions of public health officials.

These recommendations include:
• training of all employees, contractors and trades on COVID-19 policies
• maintaining physical distancing of 2 metres
• providing on-site sanitation
• tracking and monitoring of workers and site visitors

The City will closely monitor and work with the Contractor to ensure complete adherence to all COVID-19 regulations and policies. The Province has also advised that they will be increasing the number of Ministry of Labour Inspectors to ensure that essential businesses are complying with the health and safety requirements.

What to Expect During Construction

Impacts: There will be some construction related dust, noise and traffic delays. The City will make every effort to reduce the impacts. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Work Hours: Work will occur between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Traffic and Pedestrians: No road or lane closures will be required during construction.There will be no impact on sidewalks or multi-use trails.

Transit Service: No impact to transit routes during construction.

Parking: No impact during construction.

Restoration Works: The construction site will be restored after construction has been completed.

Utility Disruptions: Temporary disruptions to utilities (i.e. gas, hydro, water, telecommunications and cable TV) may be experienced. Every effort will be made to promptly restore service.

Peel Public Health advises residents to get their annual flu shot this November to help protect against influenza.

All residents can make an appointment to get their free flu shot at the following locations:

  • Family doctors’ offices and walk-in clinics for adults and children over 6 months of age.
  • Participating pharmacies for adults and children aged 2 and over.
  • Individuals without a health card can get a flu shot from a community health centre or at a pharmacy.
