As a member of the Road Safety Committee and as we embark on the festivities of the first long-weekend of the summer, the Victoria Day Holiday, Peel Regional Police will be recognizing Road Safety Week starting on Tuesday, May 17th to Monday, May 23rd.
Road Safety is a high priority for PRP and part of our Regional Community and Safety Wellbeing Plan. We launched our annual Project Erase and Project Noisemaker on May 1st. During the warmer weather months, ERASE will target street racing activities in Peel Region and Noisemaker will address motor vehicles with modified and/or excessively loud exhaust systems on the roads. Background:
The existing sanitary pumping stations (Elmwood, Hiawatha, and Rosemere) and some of the sanitary sewer mains and watermains in the general Port Credit East area are experiencing operational challenges.
The Region of Peel initiated this Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to develop an integrated and optimized servicing strategy to me
et the needs of the existing community and provide for future growth.
Process:
This study follows a Schedule C Class EA process including:
• Public and agency stakeholder engagement.
• Looking at ways to improve and optimize the water and wastewater systems.
• Investigating alternative long-term servicing strategies, construction methodologies and design concepts and their potential impacts and mitigation needs.
• Confirming the preferred solution including alignments, siting, design, and construction timing.
Your Input is Important:Three Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held to present the findings of the Class EA and to provide an opportunity
to give feedback to the project team.
PIC No. 2 (Virtual):
This PIC is being held virtually and will present the alternative sites and route alignments evaluated for the water and wastewater study components. Secondly, this PIC will present the selected preliminary preferred servicing strategies for the following study components:
• New Lakeshore Road Deep Trunk Sewer.
• New Lakeshore Road Sub-transmission Watermain.
• Rosemere, Elmwood, and Hiawatha Sewage Pumping Stations.

The City of Mississauga is conducting an aerial spray tentatively scheduled to start on May 15 and end June 12, 2022. The spray will happen between 5 and 7:30 a.m. The spray will target and manage Lymantria dispar dispar (LDD), formerly known as “gypsy moth,” in affected city neighbourhoods. The timing of the spray is dependent on weather conditions, the emergence of LDD caterpillars and development of leaves on trees. Private and public lands in specific areas of Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 will be sprayed. Read More

“Renovating Carmen Corbasson Community Centre is part of our efforts to enhance the recreation programs and services that we offer to our community members,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “We’re committed to improving facility sustainability, accessibility and safety features while also providing the top-quality programming that the City of Mississauga has become known for. We look forward to welcoming back residents once renovations are complete.”
The community centre will reopen in fall 2024. Once completed, the renovated facility will include:
- A fitness centre with cardio machines, weights and fitness studio with wood sprung floor
- A new aquatics centre with a 25-metre, six-lane pool and a warm water therapy pool
- A new multi-purpose space
- Enhancements to existing multi-purpose spaces
- Renovations to the indoor arena
- Improved connections to the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre
- Improved sustainable and accessible design standards
“The Carmen Corbasson Community Centre has been a staple in the Ward 1 community for more than 40 years,” said Stephen Dasko, Ward 1 Councillor. “It’s exciting to see the vision for this beloved facility become a reality as the renovation begins. This eagerly-anticipated project will enhance the quality of life for local residents by allowing the opportunity for more programming and improved access and safety, while raising the bar on sustainability and green building standards.”
This redevelopment was recommended and approved as part of the City’s 2019 Recreation Master plan, which was informed through extensive community consultation.
“The Carmen Corbasson Community Centre underwent an extensive renovation about 20 years ago,” said Kristina Zietsma, Director, Recreation. “This much-needed redevelopment project is addressing aging infrastructure and will also offer much more in the way of services, programs and activities for Ward 1 and beyond.”
Although the facility closure is scheduled for June 20 many services will continue to be available at community facilities throughout the City. All aquatic programming at Cawthra Park Secondary School will continue as normal through the redevelopment. The Mississauga Seniors’ Centre will remain open. Site access during the renovation will change to allow for the construction zone to be secured.

Background
Carmen Corbasson Community Centre was built in 1972 and is located on Cawthra Road just south of the QEW in Mississauga. Formerly known as the Cawthra Arena, the facility was renamed in 2012 in honour of retired Ward 1 Councillor, Carmen Corbasson.
